Traditional Architectural Stone Carving and Headstones in Ireland

As a Master Stone Carver based in Ireland, Stuart specialises in bespoke design, carving architectural stonework, letter carving, monuments and headstones. Utilising traditional tools and techniques along with classical design and proportions, each year Stuart creates a small number of memorials that are beautiful sculptural pieces.

Focusing on the memorial as a celebration of life and not just a passing allows for the unique personality of those being remembered to live on in a piece of personalised stone artwork. Specialising in traditional methods of hand cut lettering, architectural and classical stone carving, they give the final stone an elegance and timeless quality unachievable by machine made products.

V-cut lettering in stone around Ireland had nearly become a lost craft, now revived through many years training. I use only the finest Irish and European stones such as limestone, marble and granite among others to produce artistic and meaningful headstones.

Stuart has worked on a number of large projects, ranging from historical buildings to large scale civic letter cutting commissions. Along with these larger projects he has undertaken many memorials and sculptures in Ireland, the UK and the United States. Bronze sculpture has also been a part of many of his works, which can work beautifully combined with stone in a sculptural form or in the shape of bronze lettering on stone.
